What is a Topsite List?

'Topsites' are a traffic exchange system.
Simply put, whichever site sends in the most hits is postioned at the top of the list. The highest placed website generally getting the most return traffic.

How a Topsite System Works

Rankings
Sites are ranked by the amount of traffic (votes) they send to their respective list. Most of the time, this technique is quite effective in ranking sites as better sites are usually more popular.

Getting Votes
To receive votes, all that is needed is a link back to the list(s) that the site belongs to.

We have devised our own Topsites Ranking Script. Listed below are some main features OAST Topsites has that may not be found elsewhere.

Anti-Cheat Gateway
To prevent people from abusing the system, an anti-cheat gateway requires users to click twice to get to the listings.
This prevents falsely generated votes and also people getting tricked into coming here through misleading links.
It also enables visitors to rate the site they have come from, so if 2 or more sites have received the same number of votes, they will be ranked according to their rating.

Instant Updates
Our lists update as soon as a vote is recorded, with lists resetting every 3rd week.
Through this process, any site has a chance to get listed on any day, and rankings will always be current.

Double Exposure
If a site receives enough votes it will also be listed on the front page of the main toplist, with the top 5 appearing on the OAST home page.

You will be ranked according to the number of unique hits you send us.
The 'ranking-list' is re-generated automatically and the counters reset every 3rd week. We have determined this to be the fairest way to list the participating sites. If the sites sending us the most traffic were not given a prominent position then it would not be worth it for them to send us any traffic.

By signing up you will be given a small piece of html code, containing your unique user ID, to place on your web pages. Use this code wherever you wish to link to The Top List. When surfers visit OAST Topsites by clicking on the link, your account will be credited for each unique visitor. The site sending the most hits is ranked #1, the next #2 and so forth. So you see, it is advisable to think carefully about where you put the link...of course you can always put one on every page!!

As an OAST Topsites List participant you may quit at any time...just remove the link from your page. Your site will be removed from the database if no actions are recorded during a 3 month period. However, we know you will be very pleased with the traffic you receive back and therefore, look forward to a long and rewarding partnership.

 

OK...now that you know how it all works... look at the categories on the left and visit a Toplist that is compatible with your site. If there isn't one available at this time, go to the Contact Us page and suggest one, then bookmark us and return at a later date. If you wish, we at OAST will inform you when that list is up and running.

How does someone vote for my website?
In order to get votes, you must place a link on your website. When you sign up, you are given a unique URL in your account information email.
You may use our banners, text links, or make your own banners to link back to the list. Every time someone clicks on your link, and then proceeds through the gateway page, you receive a vote.

I've signed up and placed the banner or link on my site, why am I not on the list?
There are a variety of reasons your website may not be listed. First, you need to fully understand how the ranking system works. Read this page to find out. After reading, you may still be wondering why your site isn't listed. This could be due to the fact that an individual user can only vote for a particular site once during the 3 week cycle. If they try to vote for that site again, it doesn't register. Also, you may just not have received enough votes to make it onto the list.

My account is gone, what happened?
You were most likely in violation of the rules and didn't provide a working email address to be contacted with. Go to the contact section to find out why your website was removed and what you can do to be let back on the list.

How do I update my listing
When you signed up, you were given your own unique id and would have already specified a password. You use your id and password to edit all your account information such as Site Title, URL, Description, etc.
Forgot your password? Type in your id on the "Forgot Password" page and it will be emailed to you.

Why does a particular website have a high ranking all the time?
While some sites that are of poor quality do rank high on a list, most websites like that do not. Remember, this is a traffic exchange system that tries to use a website's popularity to rank it on a list. Even though you may not like a particular site, someone else may find it very useful.

Will you trade links with me?
Of course! If you have a site related to one of the topsites, sign up there. You can also add your site to our adult directory. To link back to us, get a banner or text link from here.

Why am I unable to update my account?
There are a couple reasons why your account is unable to be updated. First, you may have been found to be in violation of our rules and were removed from our database. Most of the time, however, the problem is that the password is not being typed in correctly (remember that it is case sensitive). If you continue to have problems, feel free to contact us and describe the problem you are having.

Why can't I get the linking code to work?
The number one problem that people have with the linking code is a broken image. This can be easily solved, and we have set up a help page on linking to us.
If you still cannot get the link working correctly, you can contact us, and we'll try to help. Please note, at this time we are unable to help people that are using WYSIWYG editors such as Frontpage, DreamWeaver, etc. A little html knowledge is required. If you would like to contribute a small help article on how to get the code working on a particular WYSIWYG editor, we would be happy to add it to our linking help page.
