Aromatherapy Recipe Soap

Aromatherapy is the practice of using fragrant essential oils and herbs to promote natural healing and health. The practice of aromatherapy has been recorded since ancient Egypt and Babylon where people used pleasing, scented herbs for their medicinal and spiritual properties.

Aromatherapy was coined in the early 1920s. The term was attributed to a French cosmetic chemist named Rene Maurice Gattefosse. His accident with chemical burns and a vat of lavender essential oil led to the birth of a new science.

Today, modern research has indicated that certain essential oils and herbs used in aromatherapy do indeed have therapeutic and healing properties. Contrary to what the name of the science might connote, aromatherapy focuses more on the oil and not on the aroma. In fact, most aromatherapy products are applied to the skin rather than inhaled.

Speaking of direct application of aromatherapy products, did you know that you can also apply aromatherapy in soap making? If you visit any health store today, you will find that majority of bath soaps put on display are made from aromatic plants and herbs. Clearly, aromatherapy recipe soap is something that has long been in practice and accepted.

Below are some aromatherapy recipe soap making procedures that you can follow to make your own soap flavored with the aromatic scents of beneficial herbs and spices.

Aromatherapy Recipe Soap: Brown Sugar Body Buff

Use the following ingredients for this aromatherapy recipe soap: ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup fine sea salt, ¼ cup or less of a combination of sunflower, sweet almond, and jojoba oils, ½ cup of shredded soap, 1 tablespoon kaolin or china clay (white), 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil, 1 teaspoon each of grapefruit, lime and orange fragrance or essential oils.

For this aromatherapy recipe soap to work, mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Next, spoon the mixture into jar. This aromatherapy recipe soap makes 8 ounces.

The oil in this aromatherapy recipe soap will settle on the top. Before using, just stir so that the oil will mix once more with the rest of the ingredients. This brown sugar body buff aromatherapy recipe soap is an invigorating scrub so rub gently. It might be advisable to use bath gloves for good exfoliation.

Aromatherapy Recipe Soap: Goat's Milk

For this aromatherapy recipe soap, use the following ingredients: 8 oz. distilled water (cold), 8 oz. goat milk (cold), 6.5 oz. lye (sodium hydroxide), 8 oz. palm oil, 17 oz. coconut 76 oil, 17 oz. olive oil, 1 oz. grapefruit seed extract, and 2-3 oz. essential oil.

Mix the distilled water and goat milk together in a container before adding the lye until mixture turns a tan color. Mix all the oils mentioned in this aromatherapy recipe soap before adding the lye mixture. The grapefruit seed extract will serve as preservative and scent.
